Two "Ex-FJR Riders" enjoy their Kraut
Zzzzip = Skip Nichols, Palmyra NO
Pterodactyl = BMW MOA Ambassador Kevin Huddy, Helena MT
Pterodactyl 's wife and fellow BMW MOA Ambassador Annie Huddy.
ZZZZip and I departed Spearfish on Thursday morning bound for Red Lodge MT, a rendezvous with Pterodactyl and his lovely wife and a weekend of "Teutonic Frivolity" at the Beartooth Beemers annual frolic 10 miles south of Red Lodge MT. Neither ZZZip nor I have ever partaken of said "Teutonic Frivolity" though Pterodactyl assured us that it was all "good clean fun", I thought, "Where is the fun in that??"
Our route was somewhat usual, Spearfish to Buffalo WY, over the "Cloud Peak Scenic Byway (US-16)" to Ten Sleep WY, a quick lunch in a local dive. Secondary roads to Greybull WY then East on US 14 up the Shell Canyon to Burgess Junction, West on US 14A to Lovell, WY then on to Red Lodge MT. Our plan was to Fuel in Red Lodge and then proceed 10 miles South to the Beartooth Beemers rendezvous. Plans change - after fueling and looking South at some ominous black clouds and lightning flashes we consulted our Radar. The Campground appeared to be directly beneath the worst of the present Thunderstorm and in the path of the next three stacked up to the West. Having no desire to set up camp in the rain nor to sleep in the wet we opted for a comfortable double room at the very motorcycle friendly Alpine Lodge in Red Lodge MT http://alpineredlodge.com/.
A brief interlude between deluges as we sipped the Bushmills under our covered porch.
Friday morning, after a stormy night, we enjoyed the fresh hot cooked to order breakfast .......

The obligatory "Food Porno Shots"
Skips Breakfast
Johns Breakfast
Departing Red Lodge for our run over the Beartooth Pass (we passed the Beemer Rendezvous campground which was 2,000 feet above Red Lodge, quite wet and 39F when we rode by about 0800),
Two fine examples of Teutonic Excellence at the Beartooth Lookout
Chief Joseph Parkway,
Picture of a Bridge over a deep hole in the ground
Cody WY, Yellowstone NP,
Old Faithful,
Grand Teton NP, and ending up in Dubois WY.
Where we enjoyed our supper
"Braised Pork Shanks" at the "Cowboy Cafe"
and our room at the
Longhorn Resort,
though the jerks in the room next door were a bit noisy upon their 0130 return from the Friday Night Rodeo and obviously had too much to drink.
Saturday morning, today, we left Dubois at 0808 and had a great ride down US-26 over to Shoshone then on to Thermopolis via the Wind River Canyon, then on to Ten Sleep, up the canyon to a fine lunch at the Meadowlark Lake Lodge before a nice run to Gillette WY via US-16 and a final leg via I-90 to Spearfish arriving just after 4:00 PM,.
1250 miles all together
Altogether this was a great trip though we missed camping in the mud, fellowship with "like-minded riders" and experiencing "Teutonic Frivolity" as well as Mr. and Mrs. Pterodactyl. Next time!
Celebrating our safe return in an Irish fashion!
